Cake smash: Parents who spend £800 on their child's first birthday.- BBC News

Gone are the days of balloons and a Victoria sponge. If your baby is having a birthday, there’s only one way to celebrate: with a cake smash. The craze started in the US, and over the past few years, parents across the UK have been joining in. A cake smash is where a one-year-old gets very messy with a cake and a professional photographer captures the moment. After that, there is often a bubble bath, which is also caught on camera for posterity.
A cake smash party can cost £800.

It's a photo occasion for mums and dads rather than the child. Any birthday till the age of 5 is I guess
Be better off putting than money away to pay for the child’s education in the future
Hello Afrika, Venezuela, every 'hungry one', sorry for smashing with food, can you please call psychiatric hospitall because our parents don' t know to do anything else than beiing crazy!!! Bless you, grtz from all very spoiled kids….(we rather play with sand or outside with basic things, but you…our parents love their camera' s….)
Waste of food more than money !!
My lil girl is going to be 1 in March. I'm going to prep everything myself for the photoshoot. I have a beautiful tutu, need some balloons and a cake from Asda. I won't be spending more than £20 lol 😂
100 dollars for my own baby's cake smash and I take my own photos
Would be quite fun to do a cake smash! I haven't photographed one yet, although I have covered first birthday parties for two Nigerian couples living in the Bristol area. I could certainly undercut a few at this rate.
Does the kid get any presents or an actual party after that shoot or are the parents just that wealthy that they can afford to do it all??
Bad
I think it's adorable and so funny and the babies are happy too! Haters back off 🦄😍😘❤️
How to do this for cheap:
Buy a cheap cake (preferably from ASDA or Tesco)
Put a bunch of icing on it
Then get your child to smash it or put their face in it
Then take a picture of them on your phone.
Voila!
let's stop talking about the money or wanting to eat the cake or starving african childrens. those babies are super cute
It's so cute
That's far too expensive. Most people do have a separate small cake for their child to tear into, smash and just get messy with, but I don't know anyone who does it like this. I, like most people I know, gave my children their small cake at their birthday party. They got messy and we took pictures. It's a fun tradition. No one that I know has ever done a cake smash photo shoot. It's a cute idea, but it's not typical.
Cake from supermarket – fiver at best.
Phone camera/ general Nikon? same quality with good lighting.
Print them for 35p each in Tesco.
EASY. Lol these people.
Him looking back on this in 20 years 😂
Everyone judging this as if every pound they spend goes to a greater cause, we should close all five star restaurants as a 500 pound Creme brûlée is an affront to humanity, petiole who spend money on artifacts and art should b crucified what a load of nonsense
them heres 8000 dollars
my mum 8000 how about 5 dollars
Memories are in your mind. Not smashing cakes ect. As if the baby cares. Just take nrml pics god
Why it is so expensive there in USA , it is only $100 plus $50 for outfit
