How to Make a Healthier than Usual Cake- Plant Based!

Let’s take a break from all the sugar, and try something a little different. Your body will thank you for this one. There are a mixed bag of studies out there when it comes to the topic of coconut oil and whether it is good for you. When compared to Vegetable shortening or butter though, I personally would argue coconut oil is the lesser evil. The same goes for maple syrup v.s processed, white icing sugar. Now combine this Cacao chocolate frosting with sugar free banana bread and fresh fruit to decorate, and suddenly this is a match made in heaven for your taste buds, and for your overall health- when compared to regular cake. Notice how I added Cacao powder here and not cocoa powder. Cacao powder has a huge array of health benefits, the most widely known benefit is the amount of antioxidants it contains. Even more than blueberries! You will also notice these recipes contain ingredients that are Whole Foods and Plant Based. If you have time during iso, I invite you to take initiative and do some light reading around the relationship of food and the health of your mind and body. A great place to start is a book I have literally read 3 times called “How Not To Die” by Dr. Greger. Hilarious, easy to read, and mind blowingly informative. Sorry for the weird post. I sound like a billboard for wellness, but with everything going on surrounding our health and well being at the moment, I figured it would be a great conversation to start. It also might help some people feel a little more in control during a time when control seems a little out of reach. I hope you guys are all coping well! Here’s to the light at the end of the tunnel.
1 cup coconut oil
1 cup 100% pure maple syrup (not the glucose syrup flavoured stuff)
1 cup cacao powder
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
